The Alta Via of the Cinque Terre (AV5T): 598-1 Portovenere - Telegrafo

From Portovenere one of the most panoramic is the Alta Via delle Cinque Terre. The first stage (598-1, AV5T), probably the most traveled, climbs steeply along a staircase from Piazza Bastreri, towards the village of Campiglia and the Telegrafo, from which it is then possible to descend towards Riomaggiore along path 593 in less than two hours.

A classic of trekking in the Cinque Terre and surroundings. The Portovenere-Riomaggiore stretch involves two trekking paths, the 598-1 of the Alta Via delle Cinque Terre, above, the 593 Telegrafo-Riomaggiore, which reaches the sanctuary of Montenero and the 593V which goes down to Riomaggiore.
After arriving at the Telegrafo as indicated, the path descends towards the cluster of houses of Lemmen and continues up to the Sanctuary of Montenero. From here the "Via Grande" leads directly to Riomaggiore above the train station.

Marola-Cave della Castellana-Portovenere

Itinerary: Marola, Il Piano, Cave della Castellana, Monte Castellana, Monte Muzzerone, Portovenere.

The route begins in the small village of Marola (not Manarola), the first one you meet from La Spezia towards Portovenere. From Marola center, go up a staircase from Via del Montale which sometimes becomes a dirt road, crossing the asphalted road several times, but always well signposted.
Climb up to the Cave della Castellana and up to the top of Monte Castellana, where there are antennas and repeaters. Here there is a crossroads that leads to Campiglia or Portovenere.
Continue for the latter on the left, initially flat and then downhill towards Monte Muzzerone and the Portoro marble quarries. The last stretch is that of the AV5T, with a steep descent, however rewarded by wonderful views of the village and arriving near the cemetery and the castle of Portovenere, until you go down to Piazza Bastreri.

Path 516 Le Grazie – Forte Muzzerone – La Martina


Travel time: 1 hour and 15 minutes (return: 45 minutes)

Length: 1.9 km

Path 516 climbs from Le Grazie, intersecting path 517, then the AVG descending to Monte Muzzerone and rejoining the AVG under the Muzzerone Refuge, towards Portovenere.
From Via Libertà in Le Grazie, a staircase that proceeds along Via Alessandro Carpena goes up to Via Portovenere. After a few meters to the left, a staircase on the right goes up into the woods until it intersects the asphalt road that goes up to Forte Muzzerone three times. Then follow the road for a few meters, leaving it on the left with the fort clearly visible on the right, continuing towards Portovenere.

Path Via Mortea. Le Grazie – Varignano – Sant'Antonio

Length: 1.3 km

Connecting path from Le Grazie to Portovenere, crossing the Mortea and Martina area halfway up the hill, named after a girl who inspired a local legend, who fell in love with a Genoese sailor.
From Le Grazie, not far from the sanctuary of Nostra Signora delle Grazie, the road goes up that leads to the Roman Villa of Varignano and which emerges on the state road to Portovenere. Cross the road and continue uphill to the small church of Sant'Antonio. From here take the municipal lane that descends towards the state road.
About 150 meters on the right begins a staircase that leads towards the sea of ​​Portovenere on Via Olivo.

The Via Mortea path can continue towards Portovenere, lengthening the route, continuing on the asphalt road after the small church of Sant'Antonio along path 518, going up until it meets path 517. Take this last path on the left towards Portovenere, following it in its entirety until the intersection with path 519 near the Muzzerone refuge. From here it is possible to go down to Portovenere along the 519 or passing by the Muzzerone Refuge and taking the Alta Via del Golfo.
