Riomaggiore

Travel time: 3 hours 20 minutes. (Return: 3 hours)
Difficulty: E - Hiking
Length: 8.2 km
Height difference: 254 m

The beginning of the route from Piazza Bastreri:

The first stage of the Alta Via delle Cinque Terre starts from Piazza Bastreri to Portovenere and climbs steeply along a staircase that runs alongside the castle. The track then takes a right between the rocks, following the signs for the "Path of Infinity" before flattening out slightly and becoming a dirt road halfway up the hillside. Here begins the stupendous panorama of the village, the Isola Palmaria and the Gulf of Poets in general.
After this short, undemanding stretch, the path begins to climb vigorously through the Mediterranean scrub first and then into the woods up to the Monte Muzzerone crossroads.

Turn right in the direction of Campiglia, on the southern slope of Monte Castellana, finding before the entrance a small windmill in the village:

Once past the church, continue for a few hundred meters and then follow the AV5T signs on the left:

A long staircase takes you back into the woods along a path that proceeds along a slight slope that reaches the "Palestra nel verde".

The route continues up to the small church of Sant'Antonio and the Colle del Telegrafo along a semi-flat stretch.

From here it is possible to continue on the Alta Via delle 5 Terre along the path 598-2 Telegrafo-Cigoletta or descend towards Riomaggiore with the path 593.
