Portovenere stretches out on a rocky promontory, squeezed between the sea and the hills. The beaches of Portovenere are therefore smaller than other locations, but with unique views towards the town and the Palmaria island.
The first beach you come across as you descend towards the village along the paved road is the free Mirella beach, located between the first pier where small boats dock and the bathing resort Le Terrazze Beach & Pool, with private beach and two swimming pools. Quite wide, it is made up of small pebbles, with crystal clear water.
Continuing towards Portovenere along the Aldo Moro promenade, between the various landings there are some large rocks where it is possible to lie down and swim, up to the Bagni Sporting Beach, an establishment with umbrellas placed on the white pier.
Immediately after we find the free beach of Olivo, the largest and probably the most popular, always made of pebbles mixed with sand. The straight that leads to the center of Portovenere is protected by large rocks, where many are sunbathing and bathing. The Arenella Beach follows, a bathing resort with umbrellas separated from the sea by a low stone wall.
Now in sight of the typical houses of Portovenere, near Piazza Bastreri, there is the free beach of Calata Doria, a small patch of sand, which continues with the pier that leads to the marina. Then the big rocks start again, always used to spread the towel, up to the church of San Pietro.
From the church, on the right, a small stairway in the rock descends towards Byron's cave, where it is possible to swim.
In front of Portovere, on the Palmaria island, there are other beaches, mainly of stones.
