Le Grazie overlooks the Gulf of Poets. The small fishing village is part of the municipality of Portovenere and is characterized by the typical Ligurian colored houses.

History
Le Grazie has very ancient origins. Its hills were already inhabited in Roman times, as evidenced by the remains of the Roman villa of Varignano, dating back to the 1st century BC.
The village, however, linked its history to the Olivetan convent of Nostra Signora delle Grazie, born from a church founded in the eleventh century by monks of San Colombano from the nearby island of Tino. It became a monastic seat from the fifteenth century until the Napoleonic suppression of religious orders.

What to see
And these two are the main attractions of Le Grazie. In the southernmost part of the bay is the sanctuary of Nostra Signora delle Grazie, patron saint of the village, a fifteenth-century church which was later remodeled. It preserves a wooden choir carved by Frà Paolo da Recco and the image of the Madonna painted by Andrea de Aste in the center of the main altar.
Of the Olivetan monastic complex the ancient refectory remains, with the 15th century frescoes by Nicolò Corso.
From the seafront near the sanctuary, a sign going uphill along Via Varignano Vecchio indicates the Villa Romana del Varignano, which can be reached on foot in a few minutes. Dating back to the 1st century BC, it is surrounded by olive trees, overlooking the small bay of the Varignano, now a military area. In roman times it was an comfortable docking point for small boats. The villa was active until the 4th century AC, undergoing demolition and reconstructions in this long period of time. Today you can admire the oil presses, a thermal plant, a cistern for collecting water and polychrome mosaics.
