The beaches of Palmaria Island

There are several possibilities to swim at the Palmaria Island, with many coves, beaches and small bathing resorts.

Starting from the closest part to Portovenere, we find the Punta Secco beach, a free beach of slightly larger pebbles, with a fairly wide coastline that narrows towards the west and maritime pines behind. For those who prefer more comfort, next door is the Il Gabbiano resort which is also a restaurant. The seabed slopes gently towards the open sea, even if you have to pay attention to the outcropping rocks. The sea is clear and crystalline. Rock shoes are recommended.

Continuing along the coast towards the east we find the Terrizzo, entering the military area, where there are two exclusive Navy bathing resorts. After the Scola rock, the eastern coast of the island begins, where we find in succession the small Cala dello Schenello and Cala Fornace, coves accessible only by sea, with gravel beaches and very suggestive pebbles, inserted in the rocky cliff covered with vegetation. Given the position, they are quickly covered by the shade. After Punta Mariella, there is another cove that can only be reached by sea, the beach of the Gabbiani (Seagulls), dominated by a landslide movement and therefore forbidden to tourists.

A little further south is the Pozzale beach, also reachable only by sea. The beach is pebbly, with smooth stones and surrounded by Mediterranean scrub. There is also a small bar and restaurant of the same name. Here, too, adequate footwear is recommended to enter the water.
