HOW TO GET TO THE PALMARIA ISLAND

- 1. By car
- 2. By train and bus
- 3. By boat
- 4. By private boat

1. How to get to Portovenere by car
Well no, you cannot drive to the Isola Palmaria, there are no bridges that connect to Portovenere. So, first look at how to get to Portovenere and where to park in Portovenere.

2. How to get to Portovenere by train and bus
The same goes for the train or the bus. In this case it is necessary to get to La Spezia Centrale and take a bus that will take you to Portovenere and from here finally take the boat to the island (see below).

3. How to get to Portovenere by boat
The only way to get to Palmaria is by ferry.
To reach Palmaria Island you have to take one of the ferries that depart from La Spezia or Portovenere.
The ferry company Navigazione Golfo dei Poeti operates the service from June to the end of September from La Spezia, Portovenere and Lerici, with the following routes:

  • La Spezia-Terrizzo (in front of Portovenere to the east)
  • La Spezia-Pozzale (in the most southeastern part of the island towards the Tino)
  • Portovenere-Terrizzo
  • Lerici-Terrizzo

  • In July and August:
  • Cadimare-Fezzano-Le Grazie-Portovenere-Palmaria

  • Another option is the tour of the islands, a panoramic tour without getting off the boat of the islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto, departing from La Spezia, Portovenere and Lerici.

Boat timetables available from June 2024.

From Portovenere, another possibility to reach Palmaria is with the connection service provided by the Cooperativa Barcaioli Portovenere, active all year round, although of course in the winter months the frequencies are reduced and a lot also depends on the weather conditions and the sea.
    There are three journeys:
  • Portovenere – Punta Secco (in front of the church of San Pietro)
  • Portovenere-Terrizzo (in front of Portovenere to the east)
  • Portovenere-Pozzale (in the most south-eastern part of the island towards the Tino): minimum 4 people
  • .
The boats leave from Molo Doria. At the entrance to the village, near the main square, there are the ticket office and a notice board with timetables. Usually the services run from 9.00 to 18.45 approximately every 30 minutes. From 1 July to 31 August the return time is extended until 00.10.
