How to reach the Cinque Terre from Milan Malpensa airport

Milan Malpensa airport is located northwest of Milan, the main airport in all of northern Italy.

It is probably the main option for those coming from afar to visit the Cinque Terre, Milan and the lake area.

To reach the Cinque Terre from Milan Malpensa it is advisable to do so by car or train.

Milan Malpensa is located about 280 km from the first of the Cinque Terre, Riomaggiore. The journey time is approximately 3 hours and a quarter and the approximate cost is 18 euros for the motorway toll and 30 euros for petrol.





The other option, the best and cheapest is the train.
First, you must go to the Milano Centrale train station. There are two ways, with the Malpensa Express train or with the Malpensa Shuttle bus.
With the Malpensa Express, the direct train journey takes about 55 minutes and trains leave every half hour, except at night. The cost for a single journey in 2023 is 13 euros, 20 euros for a return trip.
With the Malpensa Shuttle, the bus journey takes about an hour and the buses leave every 40/45 minutes, except at night. The cost for a single journey in 2023 is 10 euros, 16 euros for a return trip.

Once in Milano Centrale you have to take a train to La Spezia Centrale and then change for one of the Cinque Terre. The train journey takes approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes. Few intercity trains travel directly to La Spezia Centrale or Monterosso, in the rest of the cases it is necessary to make a change.
